Elaine is a full-time artist who splits her time between Oxford and her native Cornwall.

Inspired by harbours and the Cornish coast, she also paints funky flowers, blooming seashores and the iconic buildings of Oxford.

She is drawn to colour and texture and often works in different media, building her paintings up in layers.

Her originals have found homes all over the world and she also has a range of limited edition prints and greetings cards.

About Elaine

Elaine grew up in Polperro on the South Cornish coast and now divides her time between Cornwall and Oxford. She is a self-taught painter and for many years combined her painting with her academic work. She now paints full time which has taken her practice in new directions.

She is interested in colour and texture as much as composition and her newer works are often collaged – a process she likens to solving a puzzle. Having grown up on a harbour, she is still fascinated by these places where the land meets the sea and where work meets play. She walks the coast paths all year round and the results of these rambles are evident in her coastal paintings, where she often includes the wildflowers that grow as a legacy of the villagers’ many clifftop allotments.

When in Oxford she likes to cycle around the city, taking photos of the buildings which have become iconic. These often become paintings in her Oxford series.

Having come to painting later in life, Elaine is thrilled to find so much joy in her daily working routine. She works fast, she says, as she’s aware there is less time ahead than behind, and so many more paintings yet to make.
